Strangely enough, the landmass of this map, also seems to be flipped horizontally. The only clue being that Horizon 2 is set in the same part of the world, but on a drastically different scale to this map (and including France) and not using any of this maps features. That is what I mean by a lot of work for something that was never really used, or even mentioned anywhere. This fits into that method perfectly, and while a terrain generator can do this kind of thing, from what I can tell anyway, this is more advanced and on-par with their other full retail games.Įssentially they are "kitbashing" real world locations, as well as their rough topographical and environmental features, but creating their own fictional roads and distances between the different locations on the map. It's just the PG style of how they create a smaller fictional area by condensing real-world areas. It's possible, but the places on this map (even though some aren't named correctly -they're still real places in Italy), are placed "generally" and consistantly when you compare this map to all other Horizon maps. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts about this or if anybody has any more information, I'd be interested to hear it! One theory is that this is a cancelled DLC Expansion for Horizon 1, but instead, using this idea of Europe to build their next full game instead of an Italian-based Expansion for a US-only based game world (at the time). Now that it's an 8-year-old game, and there have been many newer Horizon games (and maps), this map is not similar to any other Horizon map, and the file itself hasn't been included in any other Horizon game. None of the roads were carried over, and most of the placenames (even though they're real) weren't carried over for the Horizon 2 map either. My immediate thought was that it was an early version of the Horizon 2 map, however, this doesn't fit apart from the location itself being a tiny section (in real life) that became part of the Horizon 2 map. Using real-world locations in a compressed, fictional layout, complete with professionally designed fictional roads and topography. It is common for older files from previous games to be leftover amongst the hundreds of thousands of files that make up the whole game, however, there is no previous Horizon before the first.įurther research indicates this map has been designed exactly the same way that all other Playground Games open-world maps are designed. Reverse image search comes up empty, as does searching these real place names in conjunction with "Forza" and "horizon" search terms, as well as the filename itself, or the location of the file for that matter. ( link at bottom of post)Īccording to what I have researched, there has been no discussion or posting of this file (publically) ever. While sifting through files from the original Forza Horizon, I came across an interesting file named "map" in a "TEMP" folder inside the user interface library of textures.
